In other words, the city's public safety team serves as both police officers and firefighters.</p> <p>This benefits the city for two main reasons—the department's versatility means Rohnert Park is just plain safer. A firefighter can get to a crime scene sooner if he or she is close, and a police officer can prevent a blaze sooner in the heat of the moment. Secondly, it saves the city money in a financial crisis—much needed with budgets being cut all over the city, from libraries and schools to road repair.</p> <p>Rohnert Park has four fire stations and two engines are on hand at any given time. The line staff at the station is made up of 12 public safety officers, two sergeants and usually a community services officer.</p>

It currently gets much of its funding from private endowments, which pay for the day-to-day operations and shows. Being a public facility, Spreckels barely makes it off the chopping block of budget cuts some years. The theater strives to maintain affordable ticket prices and subsidizes rental rates for community organizations that use the facilities.</p>
