It was a packed house yesterday with many impassioned Sonoma County residents speaking against theRead More State's installation of 15 Iron Rangers at our now FREE beaches. I spoke to the Board about my memories as a stay-at-home mom 17 years ago when I used to take my son to the beach several time a week. It's some of my and my son's most cherished times spent together. Had there been a charge for parking, I could not have afforded to take my son to the beach. I expressed sadness when I considered how many Sonoma County families on limited budgets would not have the experience to enjoy our beaches if they had to pay to park. I also pointed out the parking chaos along Hwy. 1 that already existed, especially during summer months. If people had to pay to park we would not only see a drop in visitors but also an increased hazard because of people parking on the highway to avoid paying fees. Bill Kortum, Ernie Carpenter, representatives from Surfriders and Coastwalk all spoke against the Iron Rangers. The State plans to appeal yet again. It's their stance to attempt to wear down the resistance. I'm proud to be a Sonoma County resident where people stand up for what they believe in and are passionate about protecting. I'm grateful to everyone who took the time to attend the meeting yesterday. I am especially appreciative to those who spoke so eloquently about their opposition to the State's plan to place 15 Iron Rangers on our beaches. I'm off to the beach...

My comment was in response to newborn sleep . I am neither a single mom or a "run overRead More mom" I work nites and my husband was the stay at home caregiver. I say thanks to my kids dad EVERYday not just once a year. My comment was to assist people in general with info to keep their newborn safe...get over yourself

I am a Dad and I think keeping newborns safe is very important. I do want to add that I think kidsRead More can be messed up in Lesbian and single mom households where Dads are not presents. Look at the freak that Cher has as a kid. Same with Barbra Streisand.

You don't get it Sharon. This was a short article to honor dad's. It had nothing to do withRead More newborn sleep. You took it upon yourself to CHANGE the subject of the article. If you want to "assist people in general with info to keep their newborn safe", then start your own blog. You need to get over yourself.

It's a publicity stunt. You've been duped or spammed. It's never gonna happen. Jeeze.

My Dad, Denby, taught my brother and me to keep zero balances on our credit cards. We both live byRead More that standard. Thanks Dad, we miss You and Mom..... Linda M Long

That wasn't the question, Rex. But thank your for sharing. My father, and his side of the family,Read More taught us to work hard and be honest at an early age. As for money, make a little, save a little, and give a little. Do your duty as American, make your family proud, and protect our freedoms and our property rights. Make a difference for those less fortunate and help people become self sufficient and gain pride. Last, refuse charity with every bone in your body and accept gifts carefully, respectfully, and cautiously. Pull your own weight. Nothing easy is worth having. Accepting charity is a disgrace to you and the family. Work is the only real salvation in life; enjoy it while you can.

My Dad past away just a couple weeks ago at the age of 82, he was a great Father. He taught us meRead More to "learn something from everything you do, good or bad, learn something"! He taught me strong work ethics and life values, be self sufficient, be honest even if it is unpopular and to lead, follow or get out of the way. He taught me so much more that I can not even list it all but this is the core of what he believed and lived by. I will miss him for the rest of my life!

Great organization. I hope you are able to keep pushing the law forward. We need more people likeRead More you out there.

Good story. Never knew what they did. Never seen them at any city council meetings or workshops inRead More the last 16 years. Never seen them seeking local support of any kind. Never seen them volunteer for anything local to help the city with their "challenges" and celebrations. Their budget is as big as the City of Cotati. Interesting stuff. Thank you, Karina.

How can he be impeached? That would require those crooked politicians in Washington to actually makeRead More a decision. They are too busy strutting around acting like they are gods to actually agree on anything. I don't see where Mr bought and Sold Biden would be much better or different. I say we might as well face up to our demise as the country as we know it. The chinese are trying to buy all of the USA and what they can't buy they easily steal. I am taking Mandarin classes myself.

Uhg... they said the same thing about the Japanese buying everything in the late 80s and early 90s.Read More The Chinese economy is about as stable as a row boat in a hurricane. Japan has had a "lost decade" and is still feeling it. The way China looks... I'd be paying attention to Gordon Chang. http://www.gordonchang.com/ he's usually right about what's happening in China. If he tells me what you say is ridiculous, I'll believe him. What he says at least suggests what you say is ridiculous.

Lets see here. My husband and I live in a very small town in the USA we are very old and now is theRead More time for TRUTH. Our phone is tapped. This is truth. I worked for a service and one day I had a delivery to a state/Gov office, while there I looked around as it was not a normal looking office for a 3 story building. I saw with my own eyes, at least 60 women all with head sets sitting in front of computers and on the computer screens was peoples emails and on others was a electronic phone book looking thing. The women were listening and reading peoples emails and phone calls. And this was 6 years ago. Just think what is going on now! For the people saying if they don't do this we will have another 9 11 attack. Well read the history. Our Government KNEW all about the attacks and DID NOTHING! This too is fact and you can research it for your self. Oh gosh there is so so much more. I truly worry for our grandchildren and pray for all of us as very very bad things are coming and they are coming soon.

If RP's management structure is bloated as Cotati's, they could save a lot by sacking half theirRead More executive staff, and give the rest about 2/3 of the compensation packages they enjoy now. If the surviving managers won't accept the cut, there are plenty of competent private sector managers who would be glad to step in.

Hey Rex, Was the article too long for you, too? I know the truth hurts. I get it. It often stingsRead More like a bee and ruffles feathers. But it appears we are making some progress as the left continues to be exposed for the damage being done with their fuzzy math and creative accounting techniques which only works for so long. At least I am not being told to shut up, sit down, go away, and move out of town an inch from my face as in years past. For these are the tactics of the uber left: Go along, don't question, dig deeper into our pockets, as we massage your brain and march our cities off fiscal cliffs and towards bailout status. Cities give lip service to volunteerism, but won't touch it with a ten foot pole. Why? The rank and file employees won't have it, who work hard to get the current council members re-elected.

Well said George, it seems these days most if not all agencies have their hand out with no otherRead More solution. they continue to come back to the cow and she is drying up. Due to some poor decisions of past and present leaders (if you will) they have made promises that their (our) pocket books can't cash. They move money around from one budget to another to make it look and feel good. I know when business was slow for us i did not reach out to our customers and raise my labor rates etc. i buckled down reduced overhead and curtailed spending on all but the most necessary fronts and now operate on a different business motto.

Fire them all!!!!
Greg Karraker June 15, 2013 at 10:57 am
Dan... Thank you for your comment. I believe the whole job could be done successfully by one CityRead More Manager, one Finance Director, one City Engineer, and one Police Chief, all of whom could cost less, and work five day weeks. Care to show up at the next City Council meeting on June 26 at 7 PM, and tell the council what you think?

The "ambitious project to fix nearly 100 local streets around town" involves "sealingRead More cracks and filling potholes." Ernest Giono called Snyder Lane a "disgrace" in a prior Patch report. “It (Snyder) also needs to be widened..." But that's MAJOR work. Compared to the sealing and recoating of cracks, and filling potholes, it's like rebuilding your house, compared to caulking and painting around the windows. Night and day, apples and oranges. Expensive vs. cheap... So much for "outrage."
