With an entrance flanked by dozens of brightly colored pinatas, Juanita Market is a busy specialty carniceria and taqueria that also features a bustling grocery market. The long, glistening meat case holds hand-cut beef, pork, chicken and seafood. Narrow trays of marinated meats, tripe, chorizo and steaks are packed side-by-side with whole and cut-up chicken and chicken feet. A three-foot-long tray atop the case holds a mound of fresh deep-fried pork rinds, ready to grab and go. Stacks of charcoal bags line up just below the edge of the meat cases.

In the back of the store, a colorful menu board lists the dozens of dishes served at the taqueria. Desayunos (breakfast), platillos (lunch) and paquetes para fiestas (family combos), plus mariscos (seafood) are available. The grocery shelves are tightly packed in perfectly aligned rows that contain Mexican staples. Even the produce is arranged in tight, orderly ranks, looking fresh and inviting. Every staffer, from butcher to cook, and from cashier to stocker, has a smile and is ready to help customers find anything they need.
