Prepare your Hot Tub for Fall!

As the weather begins to cools down, we tend to use our Hot Tubs more often. Be proactive and prep your Hot Tub for increased usage by following these recommended steps:

  • Start fresh this season by draining your Hot Tub. First, use Spa Purge to flush out the plumbing. This will eliminate the organic build up from oils, cosmetics, sweat etc that causes scum lines, clogged filters, foaming and other build-up throughout your pipes. Once that’s done, completely power off your Spa and begin draining.

  • When empty, wipe down your Spa to clear away any extra residue. Now is the time to use Gel Gloss if you wish to polish the shell before refilling. When refilling, place the running hose in your filter area- this will avoid filter air bubbles that happens sometimes when refilling.

  • Now’s a good time to clean your filters too. Clean filters mean clean water! If your filter is looking questionable, buy a new one- clean filters reduce cloudiness and keep your water healthier for longer, so don’t skimp!

  • It’s also a good idea to prep your cover too with some extra TLC for the upcoming colder days and Fall debris blowing around. Hose down the cover to get rid of excess residue, then gently clean it with an oil free non-abrasive cleaner, or just hot water. Vinyl can be damaged with oil-based and abrasive cleaners, so be sure to use a gentle cleaner to avoid unnecessary wear! When dry, apply 303 Protectant to condition and protect your cover. Using 303 will prolong the vinyl and nice look of your cover.

If you do these steps, your Hot Tub will be fresh, clean and ready for a new season!

Conserve Energy!

Adding a Solar-Cell Sun blanket over your water can drastically reduce heat loss due to evaporation, letting you run your heat less frequently. It also helps protect your cover by keeping all that condensation away from it so it won't get water logged.

Cloudy Water?

Cloudy water is usually either caused by water being out of balance, or bacteria in the water.

Try these steps:

1. Test your water balance in this order: total alkalinity, pH, and calcium hardness.

2. Test the sanitizer level. This may be chlorine, bromine, etc depending on what you're using. Make sure all are in range, or adjust. Wait 24 hours to see if cloudiness disappears.

Still cloudy? Try adding 2 TBSP of oxidizer, like Spa Oxidizing Shock (salt/chlorine/bromine only) and run the jets for 20 minutes with the cover open. Wait 24 hours.

Still cloudy?! You might need a clarifier like Spa Clear. Follow as directed, run the jets and check in 24 hours.
