In Home Care: Don’t Overlook Areas of Emergency Planning written by Stan Lawson

Disaster planning is a very important part of our lives, as the recent deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas remind us. We also live with the threats of earthquakes and devastating fires. Here at Sequoia Senior Solutions we have updated our planning.

How is your emergency plan? Does it take into account your family pets? How about your computer? I didn't think so. Most of us are prepared somewhat for a natural or man made disaster, but there are some things that might not have occurred to us.

Here's one suggestion:

Emergency Evacuation

What is your emergency evacuation plan for your home and also for your community. Most communities have emergency evacuation routes that you can get access to so you need to know which direction you should go and which detours you can take if the main route is not available. Knowing these things in advance will allow you to keep calm during an emergency evacuation. If you aren’t sure, look up the information online or call city hall. However, be prepared for the unprepared, as not everyone will know which routes to take. You may encounter a lot of panicked people who halt progress because they don't know what to do.

Red Cross Apps on Your Smartphone If you care able to use your smart phone at any time during an emergency, you will be able to use the Red Cross Apps that are for hurricanes, fires, tornados and other disasters. All you have to do is download them.
