Should the Rohnert Park City Council Appoint Its Next Members?

On Wednesday morning, the Rohnert Park City Council is expected to adopt a resolution that calls for the appointment of three city council members, each running unopposed in the November election.

Should the Rohnert Park City Council appoint its members or run an election for the voters to decide?

That's the question on the table for the RP City Council Wednesday during a special meeting. Since incumbents Gina Belforte, Jake Mackenzie and Joe Callinan are running unopposed during the November election, the city will be considering cancelling the election in favor of appointing its members.

It's a move that's sure to save the city some money, since there is no competition for the incumbents. Rohnert Park Assembly of God Pastor Chip Worthington was the only other person to have pulled papers, but did not file those papers in time for the Aug 10 deadline.
