Roundabouts Come Back at the Cotati City Council Meeting

...and the budget was approved unanimously

In 2011 discussion of roundabouts dominated conversation at coffee shops and elsewhere in Cotati as the hotly debated topic. But while roundabouts were initially approved in December of 2011, loss of $2.5 million dollars of redevelopment money has put the project on hold.

In the meantime Cotati residents have stayed active.

A voter initiative was made to prohibit roundabouts or similar traffic features within the city limits. In response the City Council ordered a report on what type of impact there would be by such a move in regards to public safety and economic factors. It is expected that the initiative will now have to wait until the November elections.

On another note, the City Council unanimously approved a $4.86 million dollar budget. This balanced budget is the third in a row since a large shortfall back in 2009. One of the major changes to this year's budget was to the City Manager, Community Development, and Administrative Services departments which are now responsible for handling duties and costs that the now eliminated redevelopment agency was previously responsible for.
