Rohnert Park City Council Votes to Appoint Its Members

In a move that's expected to save the city thousands of dollars, the Rohnert Park City Council voted Wednesday during a special meeting to appoint its members, forgoing the November election.

Anyone planning to wage a particularly vigorous write-in campaign will have to wait for the next seat on the dais to become available on the Rohnert Park City Council.

On Wednesday, the council voted 3-0 to appoint incumbents Councilwoman Gina Belforte, Mayor Jack Mackenzie and Councilman Joe Callinan to the council.

No one stepped up to challenge the incumbents. Pastor Chip Worthington pulled papers, but did not file them. The decision is expected to save the city thousands of dollars that would have been spent on administering the November election.

The vote to appoint the incumbents was cast by Mackenzie, Councilman Amy Ahanotu and Councilwoman Pam Stafford. Belforte did not attend the meeting and Callinan recused himself from the vote.

Now we put the question up to the users of Rohnert Park Patch. Did the council make the right decision? Did you plan on voting for a write-in candidate? Do you feel left out of the election process?
