Sonoma Coroner IDs Penngrove Man Who Died In Thursday Solo-Car Crash

The Sonoma County coroner's office has identified the victim of a solo vehicle crash in Penngrove Thursday afternoon as 60-year-old Steven Carney of Penngrove.

Carney's Nissan Altima ran off the side of Old Redwood Highway near Adobe Road around 4 p.m. and struck a tree, California Highway Patrol Officer Jon Sloat said.

There were no signs of braking. It does not appear Carney was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is being investigated as a factor in the crash, Sloat said.

Carney was extricated from the Nissan and taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Sloat said.

The crash closed the road for 80 minutes.
