RP Driver Stopped With Record, Without Papers

Rohnert Park man driving truck lacked license, registration, or insurance, but had multiple outstanding warrants.

At 10:20 p.m. Tuesday evening, Officer Joe Gilbert was on routine patrol on southbound 101 near Hearn Ave, when he observed a Chevy truck with expired registration tags.

Stopping the truck, he found that the driver, identified as Jonathan Allen Causey, 31, of Rohnert Park, was unable to provide a valid license, registration, or insurance. Causey informed the officer that his license was suspended.

A records check revealed that Causey had multiple warrants out for his arrest for contempt of court, driving while suspended, drug impairment, and failure to install an ignition interlock. Causey has a prior conviction for DUI, and four convictions for driving while suspended, three of them from this year. Causey was arrested and booked for driving while suspended, and the outstanding warrants.

Earlier in the day, at approximately 3:30 p.m, a citizen called 911 to report a possible DUI driver, also on northbound 101 near Yolanda Ave. The caller stated that the Oldsmobile Alero was weaving, and not able to maintain its lane.

While officers were en route, the vehicle crashed into a guardrail on the Yolanda off-ramp. Officers found the vehicle stuck in a ditch, with the driver still behind the wheel. The driver appeared lethargic, and unable to stay awake.
