A Rohnert Park teen went to jail Saturday on serious charges of vandalism.
Petaluma Police arrested James Joseph Jensen, 18, of Rohnert Park, on suspicion of felony vandalism, resisting arrest and committing a felony while out on bail.
Police say Jensen was doing graffiti at a newly-installed bus stop enclosure at 900 East Washington Street, near the new East Washington Place shopping center, Saturday at 1:43 a.m.
An officer observed Jensen marking up the bus stop with a large permanent marker, and approached the teen. But as the officer closed in, Jensen ran for it.
"Jensen was caught a short distance away near an apartment complex after he fell to the pavement," a Petaluma PD press release stated. "Jensen was found to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest."
Police estimate the damage caused by Jensen to the bus enclosure was in excess of $1,000, warranting the felony charge. Jensen was out on bail for a prior case involving an assault with a deadly weapon in Sonoma County at the time of his arrest.
Jensen was transported and booked into Sonoma County Jail.
