Rohnert Park Resident Injured in Sunday Night DUI Crash

Adrian Sanchez, who was rear-ended by a drunk driver, was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital following the accident. Police throughout Sonoma County are ramping up DUI patrols through Memorial Day.

A Santa Rosa man was arrested for a felony count of driving under the influence Sunday night when he rear-ended Adrian Sanchez, of Rohnert Park, on Stony Point Road south of Wilfred Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Eloy Figueroa, 32, of Santa Rosa, was traveling "at a high rate of speed" around 10:30 p.m. when he hit Sanchez. Figueroa, who was also taken to Santa Rosa Memorial, was released with a fractured nose.

Following his discharge, Figueroa was arrested for DUI and booked into Sonoma County Jail.

Police throughout Sonoma County are in the beginning of a DUI crackdown that started Friday, Aug. 19 and will go through Sept. 5 — an effort through Memorial Day that aims to reduce drunk driving countywide.

Police from the CHP, Petaluma, Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa Friday night screened 1,028 vehicles at a checkpoint in Petaluma, and conducted roving patrols through Sonoma County. In all, the first night of the campaign.

In addition, police the following Saturday morning issued 41 speeding citations in another campaign aimed at getting unsafe drivers off the roads. Several of the drivers, who were traveling on Highway 101 in the Santa Rosa area, were traveling over 90 mph, according to the CHP.

One of the drivers, a 25-year-old Santa Rosa man, was arrested around 8 a.m. for driving with a .06 blood alcohol level. He had two prior alcohol-related driving convictions, police said.
