Rohnert Park Police Apprehend Man Suspected of Stabbing His Foster Father Repeatedly Saturday Night

Micah Hughes, 20, is being held at Sonoma County Jail.

Rohnert Park police arrested Micah Hughes, 20, at 8:46 p.m. Monday night at Benicia Park after a citizen recognized Hughes from a photo released by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department.

Hughes is suspected of stabbing his former foster father, Mitchell Davis, repeatedly in his upper body April 30. Police found the victim, 51, in his vehicle around 7 p.m. Saturday night on Todd Road just south of Santa Rosa. Hughes fled from the crime scene on foot, but was apprehended last night. He is being held on attempted murder charges.

A knife was recovered from the car, sheriff's Sgt. Carlos Basurto said.

Police said they’re unsure what provoked Hughes, but said he has a history of mental illness.

He’s bipolar and was definitely going through some kind of psychiatric emergency, said Sgt. Mike Bates, with the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

“A citizen called and alerted us that they’d seen someone fitting Hughes’ description hanging around B Park yesterday,” Bates said. “We were helping out the Sheriff’s office look for him."

Three officers responded and found Hughes sitting on a knoll near the Boys and Girls Club of Rohnert Park on Santa Barbara Drive, Bates said.

Bates said Hughes alarmed a juvenile girl earlier in the day at Benicia Park Monday.

“It’s very good we arrested this guy, he didn’t seem stable at all,” Bates said.

Hughes was arrested, released to the custody of the sheriff's office and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.
