Rohnert Park Man Injured in Fatal Accident

Santa Rosa man killed when his truck veered into a tree early Saturday.

By Bay City News Service

The Sonoma County coroner's office has identified a man killed in a suspected drunken-driving crash near Santa Rosa early Saturday morning as 26-year-old Michael James Sarmento.

The crash happened at about 2:50 a.m. on Bennett Valley Road east
of Carrithers Road. Sarmento was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram west on Bennett Valley Road when the pickup truck went off the north side of the roadway, then veered the other way, crossing all lanes and going onto the road's southern shoulder, where it struck a tree, California Highway Patrol Officer Marcus Hawkins said.

Sarmento, a Santa Rosa resident, died at the scene. An autopsy is
scheduled for today. His passenger, Michael Dibernardo, 25, of Rohnert Park, suffered minor injuries. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the collision, Hawkins said.

Bee Ben -- you are a real tool.

Until this happens to your family you will never understand. This is my cousin, my family. He was a son, a partner to a wonderful woman, a brother, and an amazing family member. He truly was a loving, full hearted, passionate Sarmento man that the world will not get the prestigious honor of knowing now. Think about that before you throw out such an awful, blatant statement. Think about the loss and grief our family is going through at this time before you type something so heinous and ugly. This isn't anyone's business but ours and shouldn't have even been printed. Thank you for those who support our family and will never forget Michael James Sarmento.

Ms. Alvarado, That is why I took this "Bee Ben" to task. Not even enough character to use his actual name. I am sorry for your families loss. No matter what the cause, it is a tragedy.

Hi Jackie, I was a friend of Mike. This mans comment also enraged me. How can you be so rude, heartless, and judgmental? The bible has a great story about this, a lesson for us all (even if your not religious). He who is without sin, cast the first stone. Everyone makes mistakes in life. Some mistakes we can not take back. This circumstance has helped me remember that. I'm lucky to be alive, with all the choices I made in my youth (that could have gone another way). Mike was a beautiful man, with a radiating spirit! When I found out about the loss, I continued to have his smile, which was so infectious, in my vision. I hope for healing for your family, and the peace that passes all understanding! Love, Emily

Jackie, My name is Eddie and Mike was a good friend of mine... Our common friend and attorney just broke the news to me today.... I'm still in shock from the news as I knew Mike very well and always thought of him as one of the most solid, honorable and straight forward human beings I've ever had the pleasure of knowing... My number is 925-878-9556 .... I would appreciate it if someone can contact me so I can come to the funeral and pay my respects
