Police Net Multiple DUI Offenders Sunday

Police arrested a Petaluma woman on East Cotati Avenue in Rohnert Park this weekend for driving under the influence.

Four drivers on probation for previously driving under the influence were arrested in the Santa Rosa area early Sunday morning — and within a three-hour period, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Early Sunday morning around midnight, a Volvo with illegally tinted windows was pulled over on Bell Road at Johnson Street in Windsor, according to police. The driver, Raul Marroquin, 48, of Healdsburg, was allegedly drunk and failed sobriety tests. He was on probation for a DUI conviction last February, officers said.

Two hours later, an officer spotted a car swerving on Todd Road just outside of Santa Rosa. The officer pulled over the car near Standish Avenue and the driver, Luis Barajas, 25, of Cloverdale, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The CHP said a breath test indicated alcohol in his system.

Barajas was on probation for a DUI conviction in July. He was arrested on suspicion of a probation violation, the CHP said.

In a third incident also around 2 a.m., a CHP officer said he saw a Ford F-150 almost strike the curb near Cleveland and Russell avenues in Santa Rosa. The officer stopped the Ford and the driver said he did not have any identification. Through fingerprints he was identified as Alfredo Merino, 24, of Santa Rosa, according to the CHP.

The officer noticed signs of intoxication and evaluated the man for a DUI. He was then arrested after a records check revealed Merino had two convictions for DUI in 2010, multiple license suspensions and three outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to police. He was booked on charges of DUI, driving while suspended, violating probation, and providing false information to police.

Around 2:30 a.m. a fourth incident on East Cotati Avenue near Camino Colegio in Rohnert Park a vehicle drove down the middle of the street. This prompted an officer who had seen the incident to pull the car over.

The driver, Dana Lee Stange, 22, of Petaluma, appeared intoxicated. The CHP said she failed sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI and probation violation. She was found to have multiple traffic violations and was on probation for a DUI conviction in 2009.

Throughout the weekend, 16 DUI arrests were made — nine of which involved drivers with prior DUI convictions, according to the CHP.
