Police ID Person of Interest in Hit-and-Run

27-year-old Santa Rosa resident named in Oct. 7 crash in Rohnert Park.

NOTE: This story was updated on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 to correct the date of the original hit-and-run incident.

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety on Tuesday said officers have identified Jared Ramone Whisman-Pryor, 27, of Santa Rosa as a person of interest in a hit-and-run collision which occurred on Oct. 7 in Rohnert Park.

A surveillance video obtained from the area of the collision as well as a great description from a witness who was right behind the motorcycle helped identify the motorcycle involved in the collision as well as the man riding it at the time of the collision.

"Unfortunately, we only have one side of the story, and that is from a bicyclist who was struck from behind and thrown to the pavement," said Sgt. Aaron Johnson, who heads up the department’s traffic unit.

"This collision may have been unavoidable, but until we speak to Mr. Pryor we can only go with the information we gathered during this extensive investigation,” Johnson said.

“We have spoken with individuals who know information about the collision," Johnson added. "We have evidence that has been processed and in addition, Jared knows we have wanted to talk to him for some time now; therefore, he is trying to keep a low profile.”

The Department of Public Safety encourages anyone who knows where Whisman-Pryor works or lives to leave an anonymous tip with the department (707-584-2600) so we can close this case.

Whisman-Pryor is also encouraged to talk to the traffic team so his side of the story can be heard, police said. Unfortunately the victim in this case is still recovering from massive injuries and has not been released from treatment, police added.
