Pedestrian Struck by Car Dies at Hospital

Santa Rosa man died Sunday after Saturday accident.

A man who was struck by a car in a crosswalk on Mission Boulevard Saturday night died early Sunday morning at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Alejandro Mendoza-Torres, 24, of Santa Rosa, died at 3:18 a.m. Sunday, a Sonoma County coroner's office spokeswoman said.

Santa Rosa police said Mendoza-Torres was struck around 7:10 p.m. at Randall Lane.

The collision closed Mission Boulevard in both directions from just north of state Highway 12 to Sherbrook Avenue, police said.           

An autopsy is scheduled for today.

It was the second pedestrian fatality in Santa Rosa in the past
week.

Joseph Von Merta, 57, of Santa Rosa, was struck by a vehicle at College and Mendocino avenues around 5:20 a.m. Monday. He died Tuesday evening at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
