One Person Injured in Car Accident at RPX and Country Club, Caused by Late Sunday Power Outage, Police Say

Power went out for 6,000 Rohnert Park customers, but was later reduced to 2,500, PG&E officials said.

UPDATED: A PG&E spokesperson said Monday morning that Sunday night's power outage was caused by work crews replacing an old underground power line.

"A line reached the end of its lifespan and needed to be replaced," Jana Morris, a spokesperson for PG&E. "Crews finished the work around 1 a.m."

PG&E officials were unsure about what caused a power outage for 2,500 Rohnert Park residents, a company spokesperson said Sunday night. The power that initially went out around 6:30 p.m. and was restored shortly after 10:30 p.m.

"Crews are working to fix the outage now ... we're unsure what caused the it, but we do know the outage is underground," Morris said. "We can't speculate as to what caused it at this point."

Morris said customers living in central Rohnert Park, east of Commerce Boulevard to Country Club Drive, between Golf Course Drive and Southwest Boulevard lost power.

"Power is expected to be restored by midnight," Morris said.

At least one person was taken to Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa around 10 p.m. Sunday, after the two vehicles collided at Rohnert Park Expressway and Country Club Drive — a result of the traffic signal outage.

"One of the cars traveling west on Rohnert Park Expressway didn't see the other car and didn't stop," said Jim Brady, a public safety officer on the scene of the accident.

Brady said six people were involved in the accident, but only one was injured.
