Market Employee Didn’t Lose Arm in San Anselmo Meat Grinder Incident

A 28-year-old Rohnert Park resident injured his arm Monday evening while working at Andronico's Market.

An Andronico's Market employee’s right arm was mangled in a meat grinder Monday but he did not lose his arm.

Ross Valley Fire Department officials initially responded to the report of an employee who suffered an amputation at the supermarket, located at 100 Center Blvd.

But the grocery worker, the 28-year-old Rohnert Park resident Lee Sparks, told the Marin Indpendent Journal Tuesday he still has his arm and could wiggle his fingers.

Sparks was flown from Marin General Hospital to Stanford University Medical Center, according to the IJ.

Scot Lance wrote on the San Anselmo – Fairfax Patch Facebook page that the grocery worker had just served him ground beef before the incident. “The screams were horrifying,” Lance wrote. “Very impressed at the response time by RVFD … about 2 minutes.”

Lance said there were roughly 20 people in the store.

“A few were quite shaken,” Lance wrote. “Some just left their shopping carts and walked out of the store because it was so disturbing. Wish the best for him … he’s always been friendly and helpful.”
