Cotati Man Arrested After Clocked Doing 112 MPH

Unlicensed and racing with another car

 

A 38-year-old Cotati man was arrested Tuesday for drag racing, reaching speeds of more than 110 miles per hour, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Abelino Cardenas, who is unlicensed, was spotted Tuesday around 5:30am racing with another car on southbound Highway 101 near Independence Lane.

As Cardenas was driving, he suddenly changed lanes and nearly struck a CHP officer, who activated his siren and chased the driver.

After Abelino Cardenas and the second suspect, identified as Miguel Cardenas, were pulled over, several drivers pulled over to say they spotted the pair racing earlier.

Both drivers were arrested and charged with street racing and driving while unlicensed and had their cars impounded for 30 days.
