Helping Fill Hurricane Sandy Libraries

Independent book authors & publishers, including Cotati's Folkheart Press, help restock libraries destroyed by Hurricane Sandy

Libraries, readers and books go hand in hand.

So when I learned that many libraries and public school libraries had been destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, I wanted to help. Those of you who know me, know I jump in with both feet.

As publisher of FolkHeart Press (Cotati/Rohnert Park based) I submitted several of our books for consideration to the INDIE AUTHORS HURRICANE SANDY LIBRARY RECOVERY PROJECT spearheaded by a writer in Washington who had been raised on the East Coast.

Our books were approved, included a book by Rohnert Park's J. Dietrich Stroeh.

If you know of any libraries, public/school, in need of books please let me know.

Below is some basic information:

WHO: FolkHeart Press, K.S. Brooks, Indie Authors for Hurricane Sandy Libraries.

WHAT: After the Hurricane Sandy devastation many libraries lost all resources. FolkHeart Press has donated copies of Black Pepper Visions, Moose Mash, Three Months and Family Folktales: What Are Yours? to the national effort.

WHERE: Public and school libraries in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York.

WHEN: According to project founder and author K.S. Brooks this project has received manuscript donations around the world from publishers and authors. At present, books are going libraries able to immediately stock or keep in storage during their re-building process. Established in November 2012, the project is expected to last as long as necessary.

WHY: “FolkHeart Press is pleased to have been approved for this project. We are involved because our authors want their literary works to make a difference in the lives of others. It is an honor to be shipping our books (short stories, folklore workbooks and personal narratives/resource guides) to fellow readers in the tri-state area that Hurricane Sandy destroyed,” said Publisher Karen Pierce Gonzalez.

According to K.S. Brooks who has enlisted the work of independent authors and publishers around the world, “The after math of Hurricane Sandy left many schools and libraries empty. This is a way to give back to these communities, and let them know that they have not been forgotten.”

More Info: To date books have already been delivered to at least one New Jersey school library in the Monmouth Beach School District.

FolkHeart Press is an independent boutique publishing company located in Sonoma County, California  (Rohnert Park/Cotati) publishes folklore-related paperback books and e-books.

Established in 2007 by Karen Pierce Gonzalez, FolkHeart Press has released six books. Along with all of the above – mentioned print-on-demand and e-books, it has published Amazing You Amazing Health and Spanish Cuisine One Region at a Time: Catalonia.
