What Do You Think of Measure D?

Voters will have final say in the June 5 election.

From phone calls encouraging support to Rohnert Park and Cotati residents, to "Yes on D" signs peppering lawns and business facades all over town, supporters for a five-year, $89 parcel tax levied on local property owners are making a big final push to rally support — they've got little more than a month to get the community on board.

The City Council last night said Cotati-Rohnert Park schools need Measure D. Not only will it help boost the school district's competitiveness and success in educating students, but good schools in turn, boost property values for local homeowners.

"It's for our local schools only — cannot be taken by Sacramento, so keep that in mind when you go to vote in June," said Vice Mayor Pam Stafford. "We want to be very support of our schools, it helps all of us in the community. Not just school children."

Councilman Joe Callinan agreed.

"Keep in mind, if you're a homeowner, it's an investment in your future," he said. "Because if you own homes in Rohnert Park, there's nothing that brings people in better than a good school system ... it increases the value of your home."
