Weekend Planner: Jan. 27-29

See what is going on in Rohnert Park and nearby this weekend for you to enjoy!

Friday:

New Movie Releases: More action movies dominate the new movie scene starting with "The Grey," starring Liam Neeson. This action/drama tracks an Alaskan oil drilling team struggling to survive after a place crash in the wild. Also opening is "Man on a Ledge," which is a crime thriller starring Sam Worthington and Elizabeth Banks. The plot centers around a police psychologist and an ex-con on a ledge. Finally we have the action-comedy "One for the Money," which deals with Katherine Heigl as she is forced to turn to a career in bail bonds after divorce. Check out show times for the Rohnert Park 16.

"Spring Awakening" This musical is the winner of eight Tony Awards. It celebrates the journey from youth to adulthood, based on Frank Wedekind's 1891 expressionist play. It has been hailed as the "best musical of the year" by the New York Times, USA Today and the New York Post. There is adult language and situations. Directed by: Scott van der Horst. If you go: Showtimes are at Spreckels Performing Arts Center, located at 5409 Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park. Times are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, as well as 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $22 for all seats and are available at the box office or online.

"The Mill and the Cross" The Sonoma Film Institute presents the 2010 Movie that shows the story of an artist (Rutger Hauer) and his patrol when they step inside a great work of art as it comes alive about them. If you go: The movie plays Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. at Sonoma State University. Prices are $6 for general, $5 for seniors, $4 for kids and free for Sonoma State. The movie will be shown at the Warren Auditorium on the Sonoma State University campus at 1801 E. Cotati Ave. in Rohnert Park.

 It's time for the 6th Annual Bucket Brigade blood drive to help the local community. Join other Rohnert Park residents in this friendly competition between local fire stations. If you go: They will be drawing blood at the Fire Station on Country Club Drive near Golf Course from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. this Saturday.

Unauthorized Rolling Stones: Enjoy a live concert by the Unauthorized Rolling Stones. The band will play two sets and each ticket includes two drinks. If you go: The performance starts at 9 p.m. at the Friedman Events Center in Santa Rosa. Tickets are $30 each.

Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus: The local Symphonic Chorus, directed by Daniel Earl, presents a complete concert of Ralph Vaughan Williams. If you go: The concert will be held at the Glaser Center which is at 547 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa. The concert starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15.

Sunday:

American Head Charge: Enjoy some solid rock music at the Last Day Saloon Sunday in Santa Rosa. American Head Charge is the headlining band, along with 9 Electric, Simoon, and Disconnect. If you go: The Last Day Saloon is located at 120 Fifth St. in Santa Rosa. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 the day of the show. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 (21 and over).
