Weekend Planner: Feb. 10-12

See what is going on in Rohnert Park and nearby this weekend for you to enjoy!

Friday:

New Movie Releases: Some great new releases with a little bit for everyone this weekend! "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" is Disney's new family PG adventure movie. The show features a boy partners with his mom's boyfriend (The Rock) searching for his missing grandfather (Michael Caine). Reading Cinemas is also showing "Safe House," an action/crime movie starring Denzel Washington as a criminal mastermind and Ryan Reynolds as his CIA Agent handler who quickly ends up over his head. There's also "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" in 3D! Finally, "The Vow," a drama/romance, showing just in time for Valentine's Day. The film stars Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. The Fantasticks: This is the longest running production of any kind in the world. It is the story of a joyful fable of love that combines poetry and theatre into a memorable experience that will enchant any audience with its' romantic charm. The show is written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, with direction from Matthew Miller and Lucas Sherman. If you go: The performance is at Spreckels Performing Arts Center, at 5409 Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults and $20 for youth or seniors. Purchase tickets online here.

Oklahoma!: Come out and enjoy the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical put on by the Sonoma State University's Department of Music and Theatre Arts and Dance. This wonderful production deals with the joys and dilemmas of creating a new state back in the early 1900s. If you go: The production will be held at the Evert B. Person Theatre, on the SSU campus, located at 1801 East Cotati Avenue, Rohnert Park. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. (which features an ASL interpretation). Tickets are $8 to $16 and SSU students are free. For ticket information call the Box Office at 707-664-2353.

Master Gardeners: Master Gardener Bob Weis discusses eco-friendly pest management in this month's session, in an effort to help the local community grow a better garden or yard without all the chemicals. If you go: Interested? come out to the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30a.m. Saturday.

Meet the Bunny Days: On the second Saturday of every month, the Rohnert Park Animal Shelter offers free rabbit care information. Bring your bunny for a free nail trim and learn how to make a house for your rabbit. If you go: "Meet the Bunny Day" runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Rohnert Park Animal Shelter, at 301 J Rogers Lane.

Valentine's Male Auction: Calling all the single ladies in town! Women 21 years and older are invited to Rohnert Park's Community Center this weekend for a male auction — featuring various men from age 21 to seniors. The even tboasts fun, games, romantic ambiance and a silent auction; presented by International Ministries. If you go: The event will be held at the Rohnert Park Community Center at 5401 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park. The reception starts at 6 p.m. and bidding begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each. Sunday:

Trio Navarro: Sonoma State University's Chamber Artists in Residence is launching the first of two Spring concerts this Sunday, written by Clara Schumann and Johnannes Brahms. Come out for piano and violin, played by Victor Romasevich. If you go: The show starts at 4 p.m. at the Green Music Center, Room 1028 at 1801 East Cotati Ave, Rohnert Park. Tickets are between $8 and $12 and are available by calling 707-664-2353.
