Weekend Planner: Dec. 9-11

See what is going on in Rohnert Park and nearby this weekend for you to enjoy!

Friday:

"The Santaland Diaries:" Crumpet the Elf returns! David Yen stars in this hilarious and merry take about what it is like to be a Yuletide elf at Macy's Santaland during the rush of Christmas. The play was written by David Sedaris and adapted by Joe Mantello and will play Friday through Sunday. The performance is held at Spreckels Performing Arts Center, located at 5409 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park. If you go: Tickets are $22 for adults, $19 for seniors and $12 for students. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. As a warning, this play will have adult language and situations. Tickets are available at the box office or online here.

"The Nutcracker:" Ballet Califia presents "The Nutcracker" throughout this weekend. Choreographed by David McNaughton and Shelley Scott, the audience can enjoy a truly fun holiday event with this fresh atmosphere to the traditional story of Christmas dreams. The performance is held at Spreckels Performing Arts Center, located at 5409 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park. If you go: Tickets are $20 for adults and $16 for youth. The performance begins Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office or online here.

Chorale Holiday Concert: The Rohnert Park Chorale has provided seasonal vocal performance to the community for almost 30 years. This year the concert will feature favorite Christmas and secular songs as well as Hanukkah pieces. During intermission enjoy snacks and drinks in the lobby This event will be held at the Rohnert Park Senior Center, located at 6800 Hunter Drive, Rohnert Park. If you go: Admission is $5 at the door and the concert starts at 3 p.m.

Viva Voce! Two free recitals of classical and popular vocal solos headline this weekend! The performances by Sonoma State University voice students, accompaniedby coaches. If you go: The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Warren Auditorium at Sonoma State University campus.

Saturday:

"Share the Season:"  The Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library is hosting a special Christmas-themed session of story time with Pam Brown this weekend. Kids, ages 2 to 6, are invited to come down with their parents to enjoy stories, songs  and crafts. If you go: Story time starts promptly at 11 a.m. The library is at 6250 Lynne Conde Way, Rohnert Park.


"Elegant Evening:" Saturday night is the finale of the "Four Nights of Festive Fun" in Cotati. The night will involve shopping downtown, gourmet treats, holiday carolers, a visit with Santa and free carriage rides. If you go: The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. downtown Cotati.

Winter Dinner Dance: The Rohnert Park Warrior Cheerleaders are hosting a fundraiser dance this Saturday night. This event is an adults-only affair that includes a pasta dinner, dancing and a non-alcoholic no-host bar. Later in the evening there will be a raffle with prizes, including a 32-inch flat screen television. Proceeds will help the group to compete in a national cheer competition in Southern California. If you go: Tickets are $20 per person and raffle tickets are $5 each. The event is at the Rohnert Park Community Center, 5401 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park.

Crazy Stupid Love: "Scene it Movie Night" at Sonoma State this Saturday features "Crazy Stupid Love." The movie is free and open to the public. This comedy/drama deals with a middle-aged mans dramatic life changes when his wife asks for a divorce (starring Steve Carell). If you go: The show starts at 9 p.m. in Ives Hall 101 on campus.

Sunday:

Time and the Winds: The Symphonic Wind Ensemble Chamber presents a concert this Sunday. The performance includes wind band music from the Renaissance to the present day. Andy Collinsworth will conduct the show. If you go: The show starts at 4 p.m. at Warren Auditorium on the Sonoma State campus. Tickets are $12 for general, $10 for SSU faculty/alumni/staff, and students are free with ID.

"A Christmas Carol:" This is Imaginists Theatre Collective's adaptation of the now classic holiday story of Ralphie and his quest for the Red Ryder BB gun. This is a great opportunity for local theatre and Christmas fun for the family. If you go: The show starts at 5 p.m. at the Imaginists Theatre Collective, 461 Sebastopol Ave., Santa Rosa. Tickets are $15-18 at the door.
