Virtual Tour of the Roberts Lake SMART Station

Play the video to the right to check out the future northern Rohnert Park train station.

The north Rohnert Park station was the only design presented during last week's Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit workshop, despite the City Council's on whether or not it's possible to move the new station to either the  campus, or the former Yardbirds site.

SMART, in the public workshop, presented detailed plans for the new site's design. The station will have stops in Rohnert Park both north and southbound. Mature Redwood trees will the periphery of the station, to create a visual buffer between commuters and the freeway.

The future station will also ideally have murals painted on surrounding walls, will have a system for rain water catchment and bike parking.

SMART planners said it's the proximity to Roberts Lake and the easy access to the freeway that make the north end station attractive.

A total of 2,900 trips are projected for train ridership on weekdays, with 400-500 of that coming from Rohnert Park.
