Tasty Tuesdays Drawing College and High School Students

The cold, rainy weather didn't deter some crowds from the market.

Even though today brought a chance of rain, and strong gusts of wind blew the umbrellas from overhead food trucks and produce stands, nine vendors stuck out the cold at Tasty Tuesdays in Rohnert Park.

"It's a little slower today than the last two weeks, but it's just the weather," said David Musgrave, who owns Karma, the Indian food truck.

The majority of today's market-goers were small waves of kids from  and  who came for the assortment of Indian food, hot dogs, burritos and fresh produce.

"It's worth it," Guevara said about sticking out the cold. "We're supporting our local businesses and there's good variety."

"The weather's not stopping us," Guevara added.

Jenny Juhl, 28, and Kimberly Swenson, 25, agreed.

"I don't want to eat campus food," said Juhl, who's a Sonoma State student. "But, if it was raining, I don't know if I'd have come."

Two other high school kids, Holly Cramer, 18, and Ricky Garcia, 16, said they don't care if it's cold; they came for the chili cheese dogs from Chicago Style Hot Dogs.

Normally the two get their lunch at Wolf Den Plaza or maybe University Square, but Tasty Tuesdays is way better, they said.

"It's definitely slower," said Jeff Tyler, owner of Chicago Style Hot Dogs, who also helped organize the event with Laure Tatman, the manager for both Farmers Markets in Rohnert Park. "But we'll be here; rain, sleet or shine — people got to eat."

"I''m so glad so many vendors showed up in spite of the rain," Tatman said. "We stayed open till 3 p.m. to keep the SSU students coming, and the high school kids."

City officials said between 300 and 400 people have showed up the last two Tuesdays. Today about one third as many people came.
