Vote Here: Local Resident Enters Holiday Lights Contest for a Chance to Win $100K for Rohnert Park-Cotati Schools

The Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District has a good shot of winning Patch's "Deck the House" contest, thanks to local resident Scott Weaver, who has entered his house in the contest. Vote below!

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to win a $100,000 gift for the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District — we've got a good chace of winning, but the competition is mounting.

Scott Weaver has entered his house into the contest, with a video showing his decked-out lights display, on 1190 Cielo Circle. The grand prize really is $100,000, paid for by Patch. Make sure you vote, and tell your friends, relatives and neighbors to vote too. Go here to cast your vote. Once you get there, simply go to "Browse and Vote" and click on "vote for this house." So far, we've got two votes. Let's take that number into the thousands!

The schools are in dire need — enrollment continues to fall; until teachers and district employees gave back in the form of salaries and benefits, we faced a state-takeover, and there is less and less money for much-needed school supplies.

Patch.com launched a nationwide contest Dec. 8 to find the best-dressed home in its Patch communities this winter, no strings attached. Voting is open through Dec. 26. The winning entry will be forwarded to a national Patch judge that will select 24 finalists. Each finalist will receive $500 that they can apply to their December electric bill.

From Dec. 30 through Jan. 8 you will be able to vote for the Best Decked House in all of Patch. The grand prize winner’s school district will receive a $100,000 check from Patch.

If we win, what better gift could we give to local kids?

Is your house decorated? You can still enter the contest, or vote for Rohnert Park houses that have entered.Enter here. If you’ve got any questions, post them below and we’ll share the answers with everyone in town. Click here for full.

Who is providing the prize money?
Angela Hart December 09, 2011 at 11:41 PM
Sandy, Patch is providing the money.
May it be a display of years past?
Angela Hart December 11, 2011 at 06:19 PM
Sorry Greg it has to be up this year.

How do we find out if a house has already been nominated? And how do we vote? Weavers Winter Wonderland needs to be nominated & we need to get the word out about voting!
Angela Hart December 13, 2011 at 02:52 PM
Michelle, if you click on the link that says "enter now" you will be able to see a tab that says "vote." I can tell you right now no houses have been nominated from Rohnert Park. You can also check by submitting your zip code and you'll see what houses have been entered. Actually, no houses have been entered at all yet. Also, people need to submit their own houses, so I would urge Scott Weaver to go on the site and enter his house, then we can vote as a community. Make sense?

We've all heard that "the end justifies the means", but in this case I really think this contest is in poor taste, considering that so many people cannot even afford their regular utility bills, let alone add to it with a competition that adds to the utility company's bottom line. But the good news is that the "finalists" will receive $500 to towards "paying the December bill." Think about who really profits from this contest, besides the one school district. If you have the money to spend on a costly display, then you really don't need help paying the bill. Seems like a case of the 1% getting the benefit. More than likely they send their kids to an expensive private school which may or may not be in their district. This will be an event to follow closely to the winning end.

Sandy, thank you for your comment and thoughts, they're welcomed. I actually was hoping that people who already do large extravagant displays, people like Scott Weaver, would enter and get a chance to win money for the city's schools — which are in dire financial straits, as you may know.

Scott Weaver was video taping for this event tonight! I would like to vote for him once he uploads his video. I also would like to have as many of my FB friends also vote for him.

Oh that's awesome Hayley -- so he knows about it and he's submitting his house for it? That's great, haven't heard from him yet on the contest. Great to get the word out to your friends once he uploads it. I think we can really win this thing!

Angela ~ That's how I learned about Patch.com. He was video taping and one of his neighbors, who was passing out candy canes :), said it was for trying to win $100,000 for the local school district!! I asked him how we could vote! And therefore I am here ;D (Is there a secret prize for him because I think he deserves it!!)
Angela Hart December 15, 2011 at 06:41 AM
I agree Hayley! I should bake him something -- I went to see his house three times last year and I'll be going more this year!
Angela Hart December 16, 2011 at 06:16 PM
OK everyone, don't for get to cast your vote -- and tell your friends, neighbors and family to vote too. Grand prize is $100K for local schools, and we've got a great chance of winning.
