Should You Boycott Rolling Stone Magazine?

Woe to those who call evil good
    and good evil,
who put darkness for light
    and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter. -- Isaiah 5:20

Is it just me, ladies and gentlemen, or has the world gone crazy??? A once respectable popular media outlet, that’s photo exposure on its front cover could send even a mediocre rock group -- such as Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show in the late 70s -- into instant international celebrity status has now become nothing more than a national rag.

Specifically, I’m referring to Rolling Stone magazine’s decision to feature Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in a “glamour shot” type photo on the front cover of its latest issue. In essence, Rolling Stone is now “celebrifying” this sick, demented mass murderer in much the same fashion as it did legitimate rock celebrities like Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison about 40 years ago. The inscription underneath Tsarnaev’s photo reads, “The Bomber -- How a Popular, Promising Student Was Failed by His Family, Fell into Radical Islam and Became a Monster”. The headline on the article itself states, “He was a charming kid with a bright future…”. Funny thing, the article never mentions that just prior to the Marathon Bombings, Tsarnaev was averaging D’s and F’s in his most recent semester at UMass-Dartmouth. Is that the sign of “a promising student with a bright future”???

Conservative pundit Michelle Malkin probably said it best that our country seems to have a “sociopath fettish” with mass murderers and terrorists. And what a great message to send to our youngsters who probably don’t have too much of chance to excel in either sports or entertainment but still would love to have “national rock star status” – just murder a whole bunch of people or somebody famous to attain your “15 minutes of fame”. Pretty simple, huh?

Back in the 80s, New York mafia crime boss John Gotti was absolutely adored by the national media and referred to as, “The Teflon Don” because the only way law authorities nailed him was convincing one of his own “lieutenants” to testify against him and then enter the Witness Protection Program. On the reality shows, Hard Core Pawn, and Hard Core Pawn-Chicago, the expert pawn brokers seem to all agree that letters and art by sadistic murderers like Charles Manson and the late Jeffrey Dahmer are worth thousands of dollars because of the reputation of these scum bags. And if all the aforementioned isn’t pathetic enough, how much would you like to wager that some desperate female bimbo will propose marriage to Tsarnaev and agree to marry this sleazeball even though, in all likelihood, that marriage will NEVER be “sexually consummated”?

I just don’t get it, ladies and gentlemen, what exactly is the public fascination with these terrorists and mass murderers?

For those of you who still have some semblance of decency left, I strongly urge you and your loved ones to NOT buy this latest Rolling Stone issue, please don’t patronize any of the businesses who choose to advertise in Rolling Stone magazine, and help support the actual victims of Tsarnaev’s bomb attacks who either lost their limbs or life at last April’s Boston Marathon.

It’s truly an insult to everyone’s intelligence to view Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as some kind of a “victim” in this case. Also, who exactly twisted his arm or put a gun to his head forcing him, against his free will, to become an American citizen? If he hated this country so much, why the heck didn’t he just stay in Mother Russia? I sure hope he winds up with the Death Penalty because I think it’d be a complete waste of taxpayer money to keep this jerk alive every year for at least $10,000 annually, should he wind up with Life in Prison.
