This year's Santa tour, courtesy of the Department of Public Safety, is making stops from Dec. 3 through Dec. 11.

Santa is coming to town! This year, instead of visiting individual neighborhoods, the Department of Public Safety is visiting more central locations aimed at drawing the community out to partake in festivities.

Donations of new unwrapped toys will be accepted during these events, for our 2011 Christmas Toy Program, or can be delivered to any city facility. All toys collected will be distributed to local families within the Rohnert Park city limits. Here are the Santa Sleigh dates:

Saturday, Dec. 3: Santa will make an apprearance at the city's tree-lighting ceremony, held from 5 to 7 p.m. at City Center Plaza.

Sunday, Dec. 4: Santa is visiting the Community Center this Sunday, also from 5 to 7 p.m., located at 5409 Snyder Ln., at the intersection of Rohnert Park Expressway.

Saturday, Dec. 10: Santa is making a repeat appearance at City Center Plaza the following weekend. The sleigh will be at at the plaza, next to the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 11: Santa will be visiting the Community Center again. The community is invited to come out. Donations will be accepted, and residents will be able to take photos with Santa. The sleigh will be on site from 5 to 7 p.m.

The writer acknowledges no "cost" to the local community for its globalized retailing.Read More Walmart produces some jobs, and undercuts jobs at other local employers who can't compete with those low prices. THINK globally, but ACT locally! Purchase from those who keep more dollars in our community! That ain't Walmart!
