Prepare for Local Summer Road Closures

CalTrans said the summer road closures are to widen and upgrade the Rohnert Park section of Highway 101.

Construction on Highway 101 will be ramped up during the first week of June and part of July as part of construction of a new bridge and undercrossing at the Wilfred Avenue/Golf Course Drive interchange and to make room for new High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, or commute lanes from Cotati to Santa Rosa. The construction is part of a larger project that aims to widen 101 from four lanes to six lanes from Petaluma to Windsor.

A slew of local lane closures coming up in June include:

  • On Thursday, June 2 motorists traveling northbound will be rerouted onto a new overpass on Highway 101 at the 116 interchange in Cotati.
  • On Friday, June 3 also near 116, southbound traffic will be directed in the middle lanes of the Highway 101.
  • At 101 and Railroad Avenue on the Cotati Grade, the night of June 6, northbound traffic will be rerouted to the new overpass and June 7 during the evening hours traffic will be switched to the middle lanes.
  • And July 5 and 7 both north and southbound traffic at Highway 101 and Wilfred Avenue will be switched onto the new overpass.
  • Also, Commerce Boulevard will be closed starting from 5 a.m. July 18 through 5 p.m. July 29.

“Our goal is to have continuous commute lanes both north and south to help reduce travel times, congestion and to make the commute quicker and easier for commuter buses,” said CalTrans spokesperson Bob Haus. “And we want to improve and enhance highway facilities.”
