Power Outages Continue After Storm Bombards North Bay

Showers are expected to continue into tomorrow, meteorologists said.

The number of power outages in the Bay Area are dropping this morning as PG&E crews have responded to thousands of customers who lost power, largely due to stormy weather, a utility spokeswoman said.

Thousands of Bay Area residents went without power this morning.

The North Bay is up to 400 customers without power, an increase from the 260 reported earlier this morning, PG&E spokeswoman Fiona Chan said.

PG&E officials are urging customers to use caution as the stormy weather persists. If an outage occurs, customers should use battery-operated flashlights in lieu of candles, Chan said.

Officials recommend unplugging or turning off all electric appliances to avoid overloading circuits when power returns. Downed power lines should be treated as "live" or energized, and customers should call 911 and notify PG&E, Chan said.

Showers are expected to continue into tonight, changing into snow in the late hours. Lows in the mid 30s, northwest winds of 5 to 15 mph along with gusts reaching 30 mph are also anticipated.

On Saturday, the Bay Area is expected to be partly cloudy, with a chance of showers and snowfall. Highs in the upper 40s and north winds of 5 to 10 mph are expected as well.
