Paving Work on Highway 101, New Carpool Lanes

The Marin-Sonoma Narrows widening will come to Petaluma by end of summer, carpool lanes to Rohnert Park just six weeks away.

The ride from Petaluma and Rohnert Park will soon get smoother as Caltrans began paving the newly built carpool lanes this week. The work began Monday night and will be complete by the end of July.

All work will be done from 10pm to 5am in order to not disrupt traffic.

“It will be like Christmas,” said Jeffrey Kress, a bridge engineer with Caltrans. “You go to sleep and the elves come out and then when you wake up, you get something new.”

Then later this summer, the Petaluma portion of the Marin-Sonoma Narrows project finally comes to town, adding a new carpool lane from the Petaluma Boulevard South to Corona Road. Caltrans is getting ready to go out to bid and construction is expected to start in late August.
