Military Banner Program Seeks to Recognize Local Soldiers

Wondering what those banners are featuring photos of soldiers around town?

It's Rohnert Park's Armed Forces Banner Program launched in 2012 to honor active duty servicemen and women.

While popular in Southern California, no other Bay Area city has a similar program, according to organizer Andy Durkee, who spent 32 years in the Armed Forces and is organizing the program in Rohnert Park.

A new batch of banners were added Monday along Rohnert Park Expressway by city workers. The banners honor Rohnert Park men and women currently in the Armed Forces and will be presented to the soldiers upon their return home.

For more information about the program, contact Andy Durkee at (707) 584-5109 or andy@starspangledbanners.org
