Hit By Garbage Truck, Boy Escapes Unharmed

A 6-year-old Rohnert Park boy run over by a garbage truck Monday evening not only survived, but miraculously suffered only a couple of scratches, the Press Democrat is reporting

The incident occurred at 5pm at the corner of Rohnert Park Expressway and State Farm Drive, according to the article. The traffic light was turned green for the cars, but the boy entered the intersection and was hit by the garbage truck, who didn't notice the cyclist. As a result, the 6-year-old boy was sucked in underneath the vehicle as his horrified mother looked on.

“The truck made a left turn while the boy was thrashing around underneath,” Sgt. Aaron Johnson told the Press Democrat. “Based on the path of the rear tires, the small child ended up tumbling out from under the right fuel tank area and landed clear of the rear dual tires.”

The boy was uninjured, but his bicycle helmet was split in two. He was taken to Memorial Hospital and released.
