Wondering what to do this weekend? Need a night out? Here are some local events that you might not know about.

So, you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend?

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.

1. Beginning and Intermediate Ballroom Dancing at .

Where/When: Friday, Jan. 4 at 977 Golf Course Dr. The first Friday of each month offers beginning and intermediate Latin dance lessons beginning at 7:30 p.m. Then, open Latin dancing, with a splash of Ballroom, starts at 8:30 p.m. The dancing concludes at 10:30 p.m.

Why Go: What a great way to get exercise and have learn something new!

Pricing: $10 per lesson with dance, $8 for seniors.

2. Les Miserables, put on by .

Where/When: Friday, Feb. 4-6 at Spreckles Performing Arts Center, located at 5409 Snyder Ln. The Friday night show begins at 8 p.m.; Saturday shows are at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday's show begins at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Support your local university and theater, and see a classic in a youthful rendition.

Pricing: $20

3. "Talking With" Theater Production at .

Where/When: 5409 Snyder Ln. Showtimes include Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Why Go: It's a chance to support our local theater.

Pricing: $15 all seats.

4. Friends of the Book Sale.

Where/When: 6250 Lynne Conde Way, near Civic Center Plaza; Friday, Feb. 4 and Saturday, Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

Why Go: Great selection, including fiction, nonfiction, mystery, sci-fi, children's books, book sets, CDs, VHS tapes and books on tape for sale!

Pricing: Free entry;  just pay for the books. On Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., individual books are half-price and bags of books are only $4.

5. Skate the Night Away at .

Where/When: CalSkate, located at 6100 Commerce Blvd. Friday night from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday beginner skate classes begin at 9 a.m., and the early bird session lasts from 10 a.m. till noon. Admission is only $6 during the early bird skate. Family skate night admission is also only $6, and it lasts from 6 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. Saturday late skate lasts until 11 p.m., and admission is $8.

Why Go: Diverse amount of people skating at all hours of the day, from kids and families, to teenagers, college students, and seniors. Skating is also a great way to get your daily exercise!
