Friday Night Farmers Market, Rohnert Park's Getaway Gem

In this week's readers choice contest, readers said the market is the best little getaway the city has to offer.

Readers said this week that the city's Friday Night Farmerts Market, now in its third year, is the best little oasis here!

Jam-packed with area growers with an abundance of fresh produce, products like homemade brownies and locally-made ice cream and food trucks, the market is the place to be Friday nights in Rohnert Park.

And this year, Farmers Market and "Party on the Plaza" is already drawing vendors from throughout Sonoma and Marin counties. At last year's event, a record 175 local crafters, producers and restaurants came to the city's burgeoning City Center Plaza — which is gaining popularity as the city to build a "downtown" Rohnert Park.

Officials cheered the near City Center — no small feat in a town that's never built a vibrant core. Many real estate execs, businesses and residents agree that the city needs a stronger idenitity. And even as the commercial vacancy rate reaches 45 percent, the city is vying to build it. The Friday Night Farmers Market is just the first taste.

More than 50 vendors have already signed up — a mix of food trucks, crafters and other businesspeople selling hand-crafted goods.
