Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 23

Festivus, bingo and more!

1. Festivus for the rest of us! The famed secular non-commercialized holiday that was immortalized on Seinfeld back in 1997 (originally started in 1966) is celebrated today. Make sure to gather around the Festivus pole and then enjoy your Festivus feast. A full stomach means it is time for the airing of grievances and of course don't forget to have your feats of strength.

2. BINGO! Who doesn't love a good game of bingo? The Rohnert Park Warrior Cheerleaders are hosting some bingo tonight at 6 p.m. at Sally's Tomatoes Event Center. Sally's is part of the Sonoma Mountain Village and has great food to go with some Bingo! Games start at 7 p.m. and funds helps pay for the high school's cheer Program.

3. The Highway 101 extravaganza continues on and for us locals is just a giant pain. The potholes have been taken care of but rain could easily bring them back. Also expect increased traffic over the weekend due to Christmas traffic and the day after Christmas sales. I highly recommend using Stony Point Road and Petaluma Hill Road if traveling to Santa Rosa or Petaluma.

4. The weather is looking moderately nice for the day with only a 10 to 20 percent chance of rain throughout. We should see some sun peeking out of the clouds most of the day with temperatures hitting the mid 50s (yay!).

5. The nice weather means you can watch the Rohnert Park Children's Chorus performing a free concert tonight at 5 p.m. (weather permitting) in front of Weaver's Winter Wonderland. This will be the fourth year that they will sing in front of Scott Weaver's house. The group is comprised of children ages 3 and up from local pre-school and day-care groups.
