Five Things You Need to Know This Week: Dec 19-25

Only five more Shopping Days until Christmas! Happy holidays and merry Christmas from all of us at Patch.

1. Lets Talk about the Weather! Expect sun, sun and more sun all this week! Temperatures will drop and it'll get chilly at night — meteorologists are predicting lows in the 30s. Highs all week are expected to be in the 60's through Christmas. Clear skies for Santa this year! Go here for your seven-day forecast from the National Weather Service.

  • Teddy Bear Storytime this Thursday at the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library. Starting at 11 a.m., kids ages 2 to 6 (and parents) can stop by with their teddy bears for a beary good storytime.
  • Oliver's this Thursday is hosing a Hanukkah celebration called "Light up the Night." Festivities start at 5pm.
  • The Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District goes on Winter Break starting this Friday. Sonoma State University is already on break. Make sure to be aware of extra kids out and about on Friday.
  • City offices will close at noon for Christmas Eve Holiday observed.
  • Due to budget cuts, all Sonoma County Library Branches will close at 2 p.m. Dec. 23rd and will not not re-open until Jan. 3, 2012. Bookdrops will be locked and online services will not be available.

  • All city offices closed Monday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

5.  Patch Tip of the Week: Holiday fire safety! Make sure your tree is well watered. A dry tree can catch fire easily compared to a fresh one. Check your lights regularly and DO NOT overload circuits and extension cords. Turn off lights when you aren't' home or when you go to sleep. Place candles carefully and always use a proper candle older. Never use lighted candles on a tree or where they can be knocked down. Also do not burn things like wrapping paper in your fireplace as it can cause a flash fire.
