Five Things You Need to Know This Week: April 11 - 17

Cotati Historical Society barbecue, library events and Bingo!

1. Buddhist Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery are working this week on a Mandala at  Sonoma State. A Mandala is sand painting that takes quite a while to create. Monday at noon the Monastery will perform the consecration ceremony at the Schulz Library Art Gallery, a free event, and will continue work over many days as part of Asian Heritage Month on campus. 

2. The this has some great things going on this week! Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. the library is hosting pajama story time for 2-6 year olds. Feel free to wear pajamas and sing songs and read stories with Laurie. Then Thursday is fairy time tales with "Tales from Around the World." This fun program starts at 4 p.m. and is for the 5 to 10 year olds. It includes stories, creative dramatics and crafts!

3. B-7, G-9, I-7 … BINGO! Time for another bingo night, hosted by the Rohnert Park Warriors cheerleaders! This Thursday the ladies are hosting a fun party at Sally Tomatoes Event Center, at . Door open at 6 p.m. and games hit the felt at 7! All you can eat pizza and salad too! Grab the family and go bingo-crazy to support your local team!

4. Reefer Madness, the Musical launches this weekend at Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park. This musical parody is about an old movie that had fun with marijuana dangers. The play had a momentous year and a half run in Los Angeles, winning 20 theater awards, and breaking records in the industry. It is adult oriented with adult language so kids under 17 are not allowed without an adult. The play opens on Thursday at 8 p.m. showing and also has shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday through May 1.

5. Don’t forget about the third "Old-Fashioned Chicken Barbecue" this Sunday in Cotati. The Cotati Historical Society is hosting this fundraiser much to the enjoyment of the local community, which starts at noon and runs till 4 p.m. The event features great food and live music. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door and that gets you delicious BBQ chicken, beans, coleslaw, roll and a drink. Beer, wine and bake sale desserts will also be available for purchase as part of the fundraiser. Tickets are available at the Cotati Chamber or Exchange Bank. The event is held at the Ray Miller Community Center.
