Eat Local: Behind the Scenes at Sift

The Cotati cupcake spot offers traditional recipes and even mixes it up with things like frosting shots. Click through the photos for an inside peek. Got a favorite local business? Tell us who it is in the comments for an upcoming feature.

People have a sweet spot for Sift — the cupcake spot that opened downtown Cotati in 2008 and won the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars last January.

But don’t call it a bakery — it’s a “cupcakery” — and it’s getting more and more towns gooey-eyed for the artisan confections. Sift just opened up a new location downtown Napa, and it’s planning to expand even more throughout the Bay Area, according to Sift’s Andrea Ballus.

Sift offers up traditional cupcakes, but we suggest hitting up such concoctions like the Pink Champagne (raspberry and champagne), the Car Bomb (chocolate, Lagunitas imperial stout and Irish cream) and Pinking of You (bourbon and vanilla).
