Organizers Seeking Help for Calli Murray Fundraiser

The event, set for July 28, will feature competitive softball games, prizes and raffles, a barbecue and more!

Organizers are planning a two-day "Play for Calli Ann" fundraiser, set this year for July 28 and 29, and they're seeking volunteers, donations and sponsorships for this year's softball teams.

Now in its second year, proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Jeff and Ling Murray, whose daughter Calli when Kaitlyn Dunaway ran over the toddler and her mother in a crosswalk, leaving Sunrise Park. Police later confirmed that she was texting when she hit the two.

netted $5,000 for the Murray family, who continues to undergo financial hardship. The day features a men's softball match on Saturday, July 28 and a co-ed competitive softball game Sunday, July 29. Both are set for M Park.

Organizers are also seeking help to book a live band, get raffles set up, food and activities for the kids, including face-painting.

"I really hope to make this event more then just about softball and bring the community together," said Danielle Chamberlain, who is organizing the fundraiser with her boyfriend Darrel Cattani. "Any help would be much appreciated."

"We want to host a co-ed tournament this September, and repeat it every year," Cattani said last year. "Our goal is to raise enough money to put a lit crosswalk out there — there's been so much demand."
