Cotati Celebrating 50 Years as a City

The city of Cotati is preparing to commemorate its 50th anniversary as an incorporated city on Saturday, July 13.

The Cotati community was established in 1893 and the city of Cotati officially incorporated on July 16, 1963. Becoming an incorporated town was important to the Cotati community because they wanted to avoid being overtaken by the new city of Rohnert Park.

The celebration will start with a free pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Church of the Oaks and the 21st Kids Day Parade will start at 10 a.m., heading through downtown and ending at La Plaza Park.

A committee comprised of business owners, Chamber of Commerce members and the Cotati Historical Society is organizing the celebration.

The Cotati Historical Society is also planning a History Hunt that will lead community members on a journey through time and reveal interesting facts and details about 31 buildings in Cotati. The hunt will begin two weeks before the 50th anniversary event.

So far, the city of Cotati has contributed over $5,000 towards the event. This amount includes fees and staff time to date.

The committee hopes to raise an additional $25,000 with the majority of the money coming from donations and sponsorships.
