Editor's note: Be safe out there. Sonoma County's Avoid the 13 DUI task force is deploying extra DUI patrols Thursday for St. Patrick's Day.

In response to the many alcohol promotions and events planned for Thursday's holiday, the DUI task force will use roving patrols in areas that have a high rate of DUI collisions and arrests, officials said.

The task force will use a special strike team in downtown Cotati since the holiday falls on a Thursday, which is also the night of the city's "Cotati Crawl," during which bar patrons are typically out in abundance.

The county's DUI task force is asking the public to prepare a safe way home before the festivities begin by designating a sober driver.
