Adding video footage of flood zone on Eastside Road north of Mark West Springs Road in Sonoma County shot on Sunday afternoon.

Original story, 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012.

Thousands of Bay Area residents were without power after rain and wind pounded the region Sunday, a utility spokeswoman said.

At 12:30 p.m. Sunday a peak of more than 8,000 customers were affected, PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris told Patch. About 980 of those were back on line within a few hours.

The majority of outages were reported in the North Bay, where 5,300 customers were without power in Marin, Sonoma and Napa counties as of 1:30 p.m. Sunday, but that figure was down to 4,400 by 2:15 p.m., Morris said.

In Sonoma County, there were 67 separate outages.

"Most are connected with the storm. We have wires downs, trees in the power lines," Morris told Patch. "Rohnert Park has 11 customers out, Santa Rosa 169, Sebastapol 794, Petaluma one, Guerneville 140," she said at 2:15 p.m.

In the East Bay, around 1,375 customers were experiencing outages as of 1:30 p.m., Morris said.

In San Francisco, 88 customers were in the dark, and 28 Peninsula customers were without service at that time.

In the South Bay, 50 customers were without power, Morris said.

Estimated restoration times were varied, she said.

Anyone who encounters downed power lines should call 911 immediately.
