Crowds Thin Today In Graton Casino Area

The CHP says yesterday - when the casino opened - some motorists called 911 to report they were trapped inside the parking garage of the casino. Things improved today.

No traffic jams were reported Wednesday in the area of the Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park, California Highway Patrol Officer Jon Sloat said.

Tuesday's grand opening clogged U.S. Highway 101 and city streets leading to the $820 million, 340,000-square-foot casino.

Between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, cars leaving the casino's three-story parking structure were backed up to the top of the structure because vehicles driving into parking lot were preventing them from turning left to exit the casino, Sloat said.

Sloat said some motorists called 911 to report they were trapped inside the parking garage. "That's something the casino will have to remedy," Sloat said.

The CHP is keeping three motorcycle and two patrol car units at the site at least through the three-day Veterans Day weekend, Sloat said.

No DUI arrests or major accidents have been reported so far, Sloat said.
