Community Buzzing About Former Pacific Market Location

What would you like to see fill the former grocery?

Update: As of April 25, real estate sources from Keegan and Coppin said there's a new business coming in to the former Pacific Market this month — and there's only one week left! As we reported earlier this year, the longtime grocery in Mountain Shadows Shopping Plaza that shuttered last year is in negotiations with a new tenant.

There's been a lot of activity in the area. Find our most recent story below, and in the meantime, tell us — what would you like for the new location? Have you seen anything going on at Mountain Shadows Plaza?

I spoke to an agent from Keegan and Coppin recently, inquiring about the activity going on inside the . She didn't deny that there's a business coming to the vacant storefront, but said she couldn't say anything else. Everyone involved has signed confidentiality agreements, she said.

I posted that on Rohnert Park Patch's Facebook page, and dozens of people chimed in. The overwhelming response was that the community wants a Trader Joe's. Well, a few members of the City Council said last year that the grocery has said many times that it's not coming to Rohnert Park.

One real estate agent, who is also a Patch reader, did say that she has inside sources that have confirmed that it's a national supermarket chain coming in. , and a slew of readers said they'd support the small North Bay store, with locations in Petaluma and Santa Rosa currently.

"The potential opening of a G&G Supermarket in Rohnert Park would be predicated on the potential customer base being identified, the cost of the real estate and the overall financial viability of such a project," said Teejay Lowe, the chief executive officer for G&G Supermarkets. "Rohnert Park is a great community that supports local companies like G&G Supermarkets."

"G&G would be nice. Hopefully, the secrecy doesn't mean it's something controversial, like a Walmart Grocery store," said one reader. Three others said they too would like to see a G&G in town.

Residents also said Pacific Market's departure has had a big impact on the city's north end.

"I am a long time resident of H section and have sorely missed having a grocery store across the street. I would love a Trader Joe's but I'll take anything right now," he wrote.

"I don't know but there has been a lot of activity over there. I hope it's a nice market to help bring the whole center back to life," one woman wrote.

"As long as it is not another fitness club we are good. Would love it to be another market of some sort," wrote another.

"Anything that will help our shopping center!" another reader wrote. "More empty spaces then full — It's really sad!!"

Some said they'd like to see Williams Sonoma come in, others Molly Stones. Some just said simply: "Please no chains."

"We should keep the big chains out," one reader wrote.

What do you think? What would you like to see fill that space?

The writer acknowledges no "cost" to the local community for its globalized retailing.Read More Walmart produces some jobs, and undercuts jobs at other local employers who can't compete with those low prices.
