Rohnert Park Expressway at Commerce Boulevard Tops List of High Traffic Collision Intersections

Anyone who's been driving for a while knows that caution is a key ingredient when entering any intersection. Driving around Rohnert Park is no different.

A recently-released report identifies the most accident-prone intersections around town along with other traffic data compiled from Jan. 1 to June 30 of this year.

The report, "Bi-Annual Traffic Collision Analysis" will be on the RP City Council's agenda packet this Tuesday. At the top of the list is a popular intersection used by locals and commuters alike -- Rohnert Park Expressway at Commerce Boulevard.

The Rohnert Park Public Safety Department tracked seven accidents at that intersection from Jan. 1 to June 30. It's a four-accident increase from the reporting period of July through December, 2011.

"Although we saw  some increases in two of our major intersections, we are still within the marginal norms of the past several reporting periods," read the report prepared by Sgt. Jason Krauss. 

Second on the list is Country Club at Rohnert Park Expressway with six collisions, and the intersection of Redwood Drive and Rohnert Park Expressway was the site of five accidents.

Two intersections saw decreases from last year including Rohnert Park Expressway at State Farm, a decrease of one accidents from five accidents last year, and Commerce Boulevard at Enterprise, which last year had four collisions and has had two so far this year.

In addition, most of the collisions in Rohnert Park during the reporting period occurred on Thursday. The most popular time for accidents was between 2p.m., and 3 p.m.

According to the report, RP saw a decline of hit-and-run accidents from last year's total of 42. So far this year, 35 have been reported.
