Parking Lot Brawl Erupts After Semi-Pro Football Game at High School

The football game at Rancho Cotate High School had been stopped early because of fighting on the field, authorities say.

A semi-pro football game at Rancho Cotate High School Saturday was stopped when members of opposing teams began fighting, and that scuffle continued as a massive parking lot brawl later.

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety said officers responded to the school around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, and found about 40 people fighting in the parking lot. Police initially thought the group was much larger, because a softball tournament ended around the same time and attendees of that event were caught in the chaos.

"The fight started in the parking lot after the game was halted by officials because of similar problems on the field," officials said in a press release. "Once in the parking [lot], members of the two teams began fighting again resulting in two or three players receiving minor injuries and three vehicles being damaged."

No one from the tournament was injured, and no arrests were made. Officials say a battery complaint will be filed with the district attorney's office to see if charges should be brought against the fighters.
