Weekend Planner: Jan. 20-22

See what is going on in Rohnert Park and nearby this weekend for you to enjoy!

Friday:

New Movie Releases - It is an action oriented weekend at the movies with three big new releases to enjoy. "Underworld Awakening" is the latest installment of this sci-fi action series (available in 3D) that features Kate Beckinsale as the femme fatale. "Haywire" features an all-star cast in this action-spy-thriller that includes Michael Douglas, Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor and Channing Tatum. Finally the period piece, "Red Tails" chronicles the story of a crew of African American pilots in World War II. Go here for show times and ticket information.

Spring Awakening - This musical is the winner of eight Tony Awards. It celebrates the journey from youth to adulthood based on Frank Wedekind's 1891 expressionist play. It has been hailed as the "Best Musical of the Year" by the New York Times, USA Today and the New York Post. Be aware: the play has adult language and situations. Directed by: Scott van der Horst. If you go: The show is playing at Spreckels Performing Arts Center at 5409 Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday as well as 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $22 for all seats and are available at the box office or online.

Royal Bliss - For a great hard rock show, come out to Santa Rosa for Royal Bliss at the Last Day Saloon. Opening for them will be Bobaflex and Salty DeVito. If you go: The Last Day Saloon is located at 120 Fifth St. in Santa Rosa. Tickets are $10 in advance or $13 the day of the show. The doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. (21 and over).

Art from the Heart - This is one of the oldest fundraising events in the area, celebrating its 28th year. Come out for an evening of art, fine wine and food. Art is sold during a silent auction and supports the gallery. Music this year will be by the Dave Getz Jazz Trio. If you go: The show is at the Sonoma State University Art Gallery at 1801 East Cotati Avenue in Rohnert Park. Suggested donation is $30 and the event runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

Winter Wine Soiree - The Petaluma Gap Winegrowers Alliance host their winter wine soiree where you can enjoy wine tasting, food and live music by the Hoovers. There will only be 300 tickets sold so get yours now if you want to go! If you go: The event is at McNear's Mystic Theatre at 21 Petaluma Blvd North in Petaluma. It runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m. and is 21 and over. Tickets are $25 each and available at the Mystic or online here.

Sunday:

Keller Williams - Also at McNear's, on Sunday, is "An Evening with Keller Williams" at McNear's Mystic Theatre. Keller has produced 17 albums and is well known for unique and playful song writing. If you go: McNear's is located at 21 Petaluma Blvd North in Petaluma. Tickets are $23 to $25. The doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. (21 and over).

New Belgium Brewer's Dinner - Jamie Mastin, the Brew Master of New Belgium Brewery, will present five of their beers to be paired with a specially selected menu from Executive Chef Billy Reid. There will be food, drink, and a discussion of beer. If you go: The event is being held at Hopmonk Brewery at 230 Petaluma Avenue in Sebastopol. Tickets are $65 and the event starts at 6 p.m.
